Friday at Sea Camp

We were able to get on the boats for a little while. We ate a quick breakfast and headed out to snorkel. After about 2 hours we headed in to camp just in time before a little storm. We are now headed home and will return tonight between 9-10. I will try to post more photos but I am have issues. We will be compiling all the photos taken by all the chaperons and sending a DVD home before the end if the year.

Thursday con't

Well, we were not able to go on the boat trip we had planned. We had to stay safe inside away from the storm that came our way. The children played a simulation type game about coral reefs. After that it kept raining so we stayed busy dancing, doing skits , watching crabs race , and doing the limbo!!! It was a very entertaining afternoon. The good news is that it stopped raining around 5pm so the kids were able to explore and have free time. After dinner we had an algae party!!! Any creatures were found in the algae like brittle stars, crabs, worms and fish. We are tucked in for the night and hope we can get on the boats in the morning. Hope all is well back home

Update on Sea Camp

We enjoyed our trip to the tide pools at Bahia Honda. The students found vase sponges, crabs, small fish, Portuguese man o' war, mermaid wine glass, brain coral and more!!! After our trip we returned to camp for a swim with the sharks!!!! That was followed by a little shopping at the camp store and then lunch. We are now in the dining hall enjoying an island simulation while we wait out a storm. We are praying the skies will clear so we can go snorkeling. All us well and the kids are having fun!!!

Good morning

Day 2. All is well. We had quite the storm last night but it was good sleeping music!! Breakfast is done and we are headed to the tide pools. We will be making the very best of our day until the storms come. The children are having a great time and already have stories to tell. The boys have been fishing and a few have made the biggest catch 'ever'.

We are home

We made it back to Oviedo safe and sound. We have so much to be thankful for: learning about our country, safe travel, new memories, new friends, excellent behavior, healthy travel, and the opportunity to go on this trip. God is good and certainly had his hand on this trip. So glad to be home.

Pictures

I am having a hard time uploading photos. I am so sorry. I will keep trying through the evening.

Friday #2

Both of our stops were interesting. We learned about the first people who settled in Jamestown. We saw a replica of the ship the Godspeed and saw the poor conditions the English had on their journey. We saw an indigenous Indian village and an English settlement. After that we went to Williamsburg and saw the governor's house, the House of Burgess, the holding cell that Blackbeard and his men were held, and saw weaving and blacksmith shops. We are on our way to the Golden Coral in North Carolina. The boys are very excited!!!! We will be heading home after that.

It's Friday!!!

We are getting ready to go to Jamestown and then we will visit Colonial Williamsburg. The weather is looking rainy but we can't complain because we have enjoyed beautiful weather this week. The kids are looking forward to heading home this evening.

Thursday con't

What a day!! The laying of the wreath ceremony was a special experience for all and we were proud of our four student who took part in this. Well done Justin, Madison, Patrick, and Andrew. After our Arlington experience we took the Metro (subway) to the Art Museum. We were not able to spend time in the museum but we ate lunch. Our next stop was the Newseum. The students were able to see a 4D movie, pretend they were newscasters, see headline of newpapers from the beginning of newspapers to present, and see a history section on John F. Kennedy. Our last stop before dinner was The Museum of Crime and Punishment. It was awesome. The students tried to figure out a crime by using forensic materials and methods. We also saw the history of criminals in America. We are now on the road to Williamsburg. We are sad to be leaving DC but looking forward to tomorrow. Many memories made these last few days. We are thankful for the opportunity to see all we did.

Day 4.

Good morning to all back home. We are on the bus heading back into DC. We have a VERY busy day ahead. Our first stop will be Arlington National Cemetery where we will be laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Four students have been chosen to read letters they wrote in honor of those the tomb represents. We will be visiting 3 museums after the cemetery: National Gallery of Art, Newseum, and Museum of Crime and Punishment. After we eat dinner we will be heading to Williamsburg. I'm not sure if I will have time to post photos during the day but will post them tonight. We miss you all!

Day 3 end if day

The National Zoo was a nice stop. We saw pandas, a Komodo Dragon at feeding time, and elephants, just to name a few. After that we worshiped at the National Cathedral. We ended our evening with dinner and a visit to the Iwo Jima memorial. It was breathtaking and so much bigger than we imagined it would be.

Wednesday con't.

Our stops this morning were great. When we arrived at the White House we saw the President's dog, Bo, out for a walk on the lawn!!!

Our second stop was the National Archives where we saw the 3 main documents: The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Very Cool!!

Our last stop was the Air and Space Museum. The favorites in the museum were all the hanging rockets and planes, the simulator and eating at McDonalds!!! We are on our way to the zoo and will follow that with the National Cathedral.

Day 3 of DC

We are on our way to the White House, National Archives and Air and Space Museum this morning. It is going to be a HOT day - 90 degrees. I hope you are enjoying the photos. There will be more as I load from other Chaperons' cameras.

Tuesday con't.

The Vietnam War Wall Memorial was an experience that I know most of us will not soon forget. It was sad to see so many names of fallen soldiers. The kids did a project ahead of time by writing letters that they left at the wall. Each student picked a soldier to research and then they wrote a letter to that soldier expressing their gratitude for what they had done. Some of the kids randomly picked names, some kids looked for one withe same last name or birthday and some looked for relatives. In the pictures I posted you will see the students rubbing the name of their soldier on a piece of paper. I can't even explain the emotions at this memorial. We loved the "Hello Dolly" play at Ford's Theatre. It was cute and we all left singing the song!!! Off to bed for some rest before another filled day.

Tuesday Photos

are available on Picasaweb!  Keep watching for updates

Our day continues...

Our second stop of the day was the Capitol. We enjoyed learning the history behind the building and seeing the artwork. After the Capitol we headed to Union Station for lunch a souvenir shopping. We are headed to Vietnam War Memorial now and then Ford's Theatre this evening. We are loving the sites and have received many kind comments on the well-mannered students we have. !!!!

Day 2 Update

Our first stop was the Library if Congress. Beautiful building inside and out. We were able to get a glance at one of the 3 original Gutenberg Bibles. The world's largest library with over 155 million books!!! Wow, you could make some serious AR points! :)

Day 2

Good morning!!! We are headed out to the Capitol this morning. The kids are in good spirits and looking forward to another exciting day.

What a great evening

We visited the WWII Memorial, Korean War Memorial and Lincoln's Memorial. It was amazing seeing the reflection pond at night.  It was great seeing so many other schools enjoying the sites as well.  We should all be proud of our country.

Change of plans...

We will be going to the theatre tomorrow night and visiting several memorials this evening.

Dinner and a show

We just finished dinner at the 'mall'. I need to go back there... 4 stories of shopping!! We are now headed to Ford's Theatre to see "Hello Dolly" to end our first day. Thank you for your continued prayers for our travels.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial

Jefferson Memorial

We finished the Holocaust Museum and couldn't believe the things we saw. What a somber and eye-opening experience. Sitting in front of the Jefferson Memorial listening to Mr Glanzer's words of wisdom. Amazing weather today.
